Thankful for Books

Day three of being thankful - and I chose BOOKS. So far my order has been: God, Husband, Books. Yes - in that order.

I thank God everyday that I have a voracious appetite for reading. I am always blown away when people tell me they don't read, or have time to read or they only read magazines. I just look at them like they have a third eye.

When I have a little extra money I always purchase a few pieces of jewelry and books. It is my little indulgence.

I love how I can be transported to a another place, another time - and just get involved with the characters.

Do you remember your first "big book?" Mine was the Count of Monte Cristo. It was an abridged version, and I was only 8. I was fascinated with this brave man - and really felt my heart pounding as I read the different scenes. Later I read the book - Ballet Shoes and the Choose Your Own Adventure series.

I always attempted to read the bible cover to cover and I will admit - I have not done so. I have read most of it, and heard the rest in mass - but never actually sat down and tore through it. The Old Testament usually wears me down. lol

When I was about 10, I began really getting into books about other countries - their cultures, etc would fascinate me. I decided then and there I would have to visit each continent at least once. Right now I have set foot on 3 - have a few more to go!

In early high school I began reading silly self help books for fun, and then historical romances. Classics began to intrigue me by 11th grade - and college introduced me to the big boys. Since then, I dive into a new book each week. If I actually had more time - it would probably be two a week.

So on this Saturday - I am most thankful for books.

PS - thanks again for hanging in there with me as I vented in the last post. I was just ticked off about something - got it out - and now it is a distant memory. Don't you just love writing and sleep? It is a miracle fix.

Thanks for visiting my blog:) I used to be a voracious reader but this past year realized that when I eat I snack. Sigh. I have a huge stack of books in my bedroom, waiting for me.

Hi from LBS Tea Party! Just thought I'd say hello as I also have a voracious appetite for books. Unfortunately I also speed read so they don't last long. Luckily blogs are filling in some of my reading needs and now Dear Old Hubby doesn't have to buy me so many.
I am your newest follower (eek that sounds scary) and look forward to reading more.

Hi Nicole! Thanks for stopping by Mindful Banter as part of the Lady Bloggers Tea Party. It's been fun getting to know new women bloggers.

I really love to read, too. In fact the hubby and I were just discussing the need for a new bookshelf to house my growing collection.

Reading doesn't require tons of time. You can do it anywhere! Nor does it require lots of money. Long before I began building a personal book collection I was a regular at the library as a child.

I am down to one book not read in my book case. I have many series that I follow. I just adore what is known as Cozy Mysteries. I think the one thing that is tearing me up at being so broke is not being able to go to the book store and buy a new book. I know there are libraries, but for me there is such a thrill to go to the book store, explore and then purchase that book. I can hardly wait to get home and start reading. But I do...the perfect time for me is after I retire for the night. The cats are purring and "kneeding" the blankets , all is quiet and I can just escape my life in the pages of a wonderful book. I shall now have to go to the library, and that is ok...but will miss owning the actual books.

I love books, and I am incredibly happen to have them all back in my possession. Yay!! I reread books over and over and over. It's crazy, but every time I reread Anne Rice, I learn something new. It's amazing.
