Desire for Hot Tea

"There is a great deal of poetry and fine sentiment in a chest of tea." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson, Letters and Social Aims

Oh how I wish I were a true tea drinker. I honestly do. I have tried and tried to enjoy a good cup of hot tea, and to be perfectly honest, it is not that it is distasteful, no - I actually rather like it. It is just not the same as my coffee..

Granted, any tea drinker would argue that it is not supposed to be like coffee. I completely understand that. But I want it to be like coffee.

As I sit here and type this post, I am about to embark on a cup of tea. My husband would be very proud, seeing he is an avid tea drinker and basically detests American coffee. Yes, he will imbibe in the occasional espresso, but American coffee is a bit of a turn off for him.

Then there is my friend Julie, my favorite Brit that lives downtown. She loves tea and adds milk and sugar. I tried the milk with the tea and I thought it was god-awful. Blech.

Now, I am spending more and more time with Egyptians, and they prefer tea. If you ask for coffee it will be Turkish or even instant coffee. I do love a good Turkish coffee, the instant is not my .. um.. "cup of tea." LOL

As I go to take my first taste of the tea I bought, the first thing I notice is the absolute wonderful aromas. I purchased an Indian Black Tea that has other "exotic" spices. It's like Christmas in a cup. Now for the taste test - it's nice. The after taste is like a dessert. It's warmth soothes my palette. Whether or not I am a convert remains to be seen.

What about you? Is there something you wish you liked more, but just can't quite get into it? For me - it is hot tea. But like beer, I am sure in time - it will be an acquired taste.

If what T'ien Yiheng said is true, "Tea is drunk to forget the din of the world, " then hot tea may become a friend of mine.

Wish I was into healthier foods LOL But I simply adore tea. I am a fanatic about them. Though I am on a coffee kick at the moment, that will pass and soon I will be back to my tea.

I love the idea of hot tea, but I am more of an ice tea gal.

I found a peppermint tea at the dollar store that I like. It helps me to unwind in the evening

I sooooooo want to love tea, but I can't. While I love the IDEA of tea, I just don't like the taste of it. Give me a good cup of coffee anytime!

I used to be a coffee drinker and would, like you, occasionally have a cup of hot tea. I only drink tea as coffee tastes horribly bitter to me now. Although I do love a tall glass of iced coffee, especially when the weather warms up.

I really, really enjoy "flavored" green tea. I have a local tea shop that I buy loose tea from (the shop is actually in the cutest little Victorian style house, which makes it all the more fun to go). My favorite tea right now is called Walnut Green Tea. It has bits of pineapple, coconut, toffee, and walnuts. Super yummy. My next favorite is called Jasmine Pearls. Just holding it up to my nose to breathe in the aroma is enough to make the world melt away! As far as wishing I could like something but can't - Yogurt...blech!
