Getting Metaphysical in Birmingham

I really "dig" metaphysical shops. I don't know why I am so fascinated, but I am. I found the mother load when I moved to Birmingham.

There is a little place south of Five Points called "Books, Beans & Candles." It is simply adorable and the staff there are super friendly!

It's several levels of "great unknown!" When you drive up the hill (did you know Birmingham is rather hilly with the foothills of the mountains..) there is a small parking lot to the right of the building. You walk up and the house (which was converted to be a store) has this massive covered porch where patrons sip their espresso and drink tea.  Most of the costumers are super friendly and always speak!

Inside, the owner is usually at the counter, super nice guy and will even give you a tour of the shop if you have never been there before. The room you walk into has an altar, and tons of jewelry and other "faerie-esque" items and celtic things to buy. If you walk straight - you will be in a little cafe of sorts. They sell amazing coffees and teas.  To the right on the first floor is the book room. EVERYTHING from every religion you can imagine. From Pagan to Christian to Islam to Hindu - it's there. Good stuff. They even sell Tarot cards and other little oddities. Through another room you will find aromatherapy oils and herbs - then another room will have an amazing array of candles and then beautiful plaques of various objects.

As you head up the stairs, you will find an egyptian section! Then on the second floor there is a meeting room full of leather couches for groups to gather, a fortune teller's cove, a clothing area, and the list goes on.

I don't know why I never mentioned this place before - but I got to thinking the other day I might pop in again sometime. It is unique and seriously - great coffee. If you live in Birmingham - check it out, if not - and you are passing through - check it out!

As you know, I rarely recommend a place, but this one is tops in my book!

They are open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 9pm and Sunday 12 to 7pm.
