Yes, Dear.

"A long marriage is two people trying to dance a duet and two solos at the same time. "~Anne Taylor Fleming

There are two little words in the English language my husband (the egyptian) has yet to learn - Yes and Dear.

I had an epiphany yesterday afternoon while I waited for him at the mosque. In his world, he is always right, it is his way or no way, and the man is definitely the solid "head" of the family.

In my world - all you have to do is agree with me. Now, before my male readers start to close this post and delete me from their newsfeed, just hear me out. I don't mean agree with everything. I simply mean agree with the little, petty things.. the things MOST guys could care less about.

Like, where to go to eat. A woman has a right to change her mind, and often (might I add.) Yesterday, after I picked him up, we were driving to find something to eat. I said, "Hey, there are tons of restaurants we have never been to in Birmingham. Let's just randomly pick one."

So we continue to drive.. and then he says, "I don't see anything. Let's just go to that chinese place."

I replied, NO and then said, "Wait - I know what I am craving."

We pull up to a restaurant we have patroned maybe 1/2 a dozen times over the course of a year and he says, "But we have eaten here before."

I said, "Yeah, but I decided I wanted this instead."

He then rolls his eyes.

All he had to say was, "Yes, dear."

"Strike an average between what a woman thinks of her husband a month before she marries him and what she thinks of him a year afterward, and you will have the truth about him." ~H.L. Mencken, A Book of Burlesques, 1916

Love this post. LOVE IT! So true! Stopping by from LBS Tea Party, and glad I did! My husband and I have the eating out battle a lot. After two years of marriage, he has yet to catch on that I can (AND DO) change my mind. Frequently!

Hey Nicole! I just found you through the Red Dress Club link up. :-)

I can totally relate. The single most argued topic in my marriage is what restaurant we are going to select. I beg for decisiveness - from me or my husband, and 9 times out of 10, we just shrug and look at each other. Then, on the rare occasion I FINALLY feel decisive... he's "not really feeling it". Aaaaah! :-)

Anyway, nice to meet you. I look forward to reading more of your stuff. :-)

That's so true... "yes, dear"... just say "yes" and then say "dear." it's not difficult!

LOL!!! How true, how true! Here's another good one that I heard my husband mumble himself once(even though it wasn't intended for me to hear): "Happy wife, happy life." Now, if all husbands could learn that one, just think how happy THEY would be!!! :)

I see nothing wrong with changing you mind! nothing wrong with that at all!!

Wait . . . maybe there is something wrong with that.

Oh, I don't know.

Nope, nothing wrong with that at all!

;)

I'm lucky that David knows I'm as changing and as moody as the sea...so when I changed my mind, if he agrees, he'll happily go along :)

I don't know how you live with a man who sounds so....man-ish haha

I must say my husband is fairly agreeable so he let's me have the upperhand on eating out. Your husband's culture sounds quite challenging - not sure how I would fair.
