Let Freedom Ring

Perhaps it is the fact that I have lived with 15 different internationals over the years and have heard their stories about their homelands. Perhaps it is because I have watched and listened as my Egyptian husband worries and prays for the safety of his family while his country takes part in a revolution and pursuit of democracy. Perhaps it's because I get theDeclaration of Independence and Bill of Rights. Or maybe it's because I started out as a journalist because I wanted to practice one of the greatest freedom of all- the freedom of speech.

Whatever the reason, I always get a little patriotic around the 4th of July. No.. I am not hanging a flag over my door, at the very most I will wear this little pin shaped into a flag made with Swarovski crystals. But I feel it. I am proud of it. Maybe it's silly.. but the fundamental idea behind this concept of the United States of America fascinates me. What a wonderful social experiment.

Lord knows, we are definitely not a perfect country. But we are a strong country, a proud country and we are most definitely a leader in the world.

So today for the birthday of our Independence - I thought I would try a different tribute of sorts. Most people will post these sad, sad "patriotic" songs. I always say sad because they tend bring a little patriotic tear to the eye. But the Fourth of July is about celebrating our freedoms. We are all about Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Please indulge me and enjoy these adorable, HAPPY Fourth of July videos. I scanned the Internet far and wide.. and these made me smile.

Finally a few more...

Finally.. Yep.. Still feel the same:

It's good to be patriotic. Strange that we almost have to justify doing so...
Happy 4th!
