Crime

Tis the season for robberies. So sad - but oh so true. Recently, one of my co-workers was a victim of a break-in. Apparently they took all of the electronics - tvs, computers, etc. When I asked her was everything going to be okay, she replied, "We are fine. It's just that all of our photos are gone now - from the computer."

Memories captured on film are one of the few things that can never be replaced. It is sad, when these burglars broke into this person's house, they had no idea they were taking some one's memories. I really hate that.

About two months ago, we received a notice on our door that said there had been two armed robberies in our apartment complex. Apparently the robbers were hiding in the bushes, and when some unsuspecting person would exit their car, they would approach them and take their purse or wallet. Petty theft, but terrifying all the same.

The interesting thing is - both my co-worker and I live in what is known as "safe neighborhoods." But what is safe anymore? What cities are the best places to live?

My egyptian and I always discuss one day moving to a bigger metropolis somewhere, and my only concern (as always) is safety & crime. After spending a few years working in a newsroom, I am all too familiar with the horrifying outcomes of crime. I saw images most of you are very lucky to never see.

I decided to take a quick gander at the safest cities to live in and the least safe. Should be interesting!

I feel pretty safe in NYC. I think crime here has gone down quite a bit, and it's not so easy to burglarize a lot of these apartment building because you need a key or a code just to enter the place, and they have security systems if someone tried to pick the lock.
And my building has 24 hour security, as in a person sitting at the front desk making sure weird people don't get in.
So, yeah, I feel pretty good.

I am so sorry to hear this about your friend. A reminder for me to back up photos from my computer. I haven't done that in about 2 years and would be grief stricken if suddenly all those precious moments were ripped from me.

As for safety, I have to admit, I do indeed feel fairly safe where I live. It is a small town with the Sheriff living in our neighborhood. But rarely do I go anywhere at night unless accompanied by my husband. It offers us both a bit of piece of mine. Oh yeah, and we do love each other's company, so it is a win win...

HOLY CRAP! My city (Murray, Utah) is #13 on the bad list?! I had no idea. Honestly, this city feels perfectly and totally safe. And our "city" is really just a suburb of Salt Lake anyway, so...

Thieves that steal family photos should be thrown in jail forever and be required to have their own family photos burned.

I've become pretty terrified of break-ins. I've started leaving my harmless (but they don't know that!) pitbull in the living room because I'm so scared everything will get stolen!
