Fired up!!

I am discouraged and more so disgusted. Completely put off by the ignorant rhetoric spewing forth from some people I might have known at one time.
Yes.. there is reason you lose contact with people over the years, the lack of anything in common.
This goes back to people, who clearly know very little about their government or even how it freaking works, have sooo much to say about a few key issues in the White House.
I like to surround myself with intelligent people. I do. In my "real life" that is what I allow "in." But Facebook feels like I am back in Public School - exposed to all the riff raff - and I am just holding on until graduation.
The main issue that has me "fire up" are the reasons people have for not wanting Obama to speak to their kids. LOL Their reasons are so full of noxious redneck rhetoric I can hardly take a breathe.
Here are of some the reasons:
1. He is a communist.
2. He is teaching sex ed to 1st graders
3. He is a socialist
4. He is a muslim
5. He is going to use hypnotism
6. He is black
7. Only they (being the parent) are allowed to teach their child
8. He is the anti-christ.
Oh.. and I could go on. Please note- none of these are (except for #7) are even remotely proven truths.
Everyone has a right to not like someone. That is fine. Nothing wrong with that. Nor is there anything wrong with sharing that opinion. It's the reasoning - the uneducated, perverse at times, reasons for not liking someone or something.
To educate the not-so-educated on what the prez hopes to share with the nation's children, here is what you need to know:

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary_______________________________________________________________________________________FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 2, 2009
MEDIA ADVISORY: President Obama to Speak Directly to Students in National Address on Educational Success

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As children across America go back to school, President Obama will deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of taking responsibility for their success in school on Tuesday, September 8th at 12:00 PM EDT at Wakefield High School in Arlington.
In advance of this address, the Department of Education is providing resources developed by and for teachers to help engage students and stimulate discussion about persisting and succeeding in school.
The speech will be broadcast live on www.WhiteHouse.gov and C-SPAN.
*************************************************************************
I remember as a child listening to Prez Reagan. My parents did not like Reagan - but they never told my school I could not listen.
It is OKAY not to like that he talks. Or is president. Or is on tv. But it is not cool to deny your child to think. To seek. To understand. More than likely, the rhetoric you are spewing at home is so deeply ingrained, your child will not even comprehend what's going on. I can assure you - many people have no idea how much influence they have on their kids and how every word you say, no matter how small - is being absorbed.
I think it is awesome to be challenged by a prez you may not like. See what he has to say. See how strong an influence you are your kids. I assure you - they get more brainwashing at home, than 45 minutes on a tv screen with a talking head.
Plus, the items on his agenda - telling your kids to stay in school, to continue to work hard and to shoot for college. Yes, I can see where some of you would think that is bad. Especially if you want them to follow in your footsteps - these items would not be applicable to your family.
*sigh*
Okay - I am getting mean. I need to stop. I know better. But this is MY blog, and I can say what I want. As well, it is my American right - and obviously those of you who oppose my thought process have the same option to say what you want - apparently on my page.
Here's the deal. I think the anti-obama stuff goes deeper than his policies. You and I both know it. It just makes me soooooo mad. I am surrounded by ignorant people. Now - if you genuinely do not agree with his policies - and I have only seen two people who can truly say why they do not approve of him (Gibbs), and give solid evidence why - and hey, that's okay. But I cannot imagine these two people jerking their kids out of school. Debate is good. Intellectual challenges are good..
But folks - you are just making yourself look soooooooooo.. oh.. I just cannot even bring myself to say it.
Just to reiterate what is happening on the 8th:
"The goal of the speech and the lesson plans is to challenge students to work hard in school, to not drop out and to meet short-term goals like behaving in class, doing their homework and goals that parents and teachers alike can agree are noble," a White House spokesman tells ABC News, "This isn't a policy speech. This is a speech designed to encourage kids to stay in school."
I guess I am left with one of two options - to clean out my friends list on Facebook or to keep them
I suppose if I delete them - it is the same as keeping my kid out of school. But then again - birds of a feather - and I am not of their flock. Praise God!
Ahhh.. questions to ponder.

Thanks for the "shout out" in your blog! lol! And you're right, my little girls participated in the President's speech (after I read every word and approved!) The speech was actually very good. I think they hired some of Reagan's old speech writers for that one! haha
