Olive Leaves May Save The Day!

This morning, I took a second trip to see my favorite organic herb farmers - Marsha & Darrell at Olive Forge Herb Farm. As always, their hospitality was impeccable, and the store was just loaded with goodies to dive into.

After a bit of  Red Bush tea and Lavender cookies in their living room, Marsha just happened to ask a simple question, "Anyone have issues with Blood Pressure?" Mom, Dad and I all raised our hands. Then she went on to talk about something she had discovered.

At her recent doctor's visit, she discovered her blood pressure was slightly elevated. Opting out of drugs, she came home, did a little research and discovered the healing properties of the Olive Leaf - specifically the olive leaf tea. She gave it a try, and miraculously her blood pressure went down by several points. Of course, when she shared this, I just had to have the Olive Leaf Tea - so I bought a pack.

Tonight I plan to do a little experiment. I am going to wait a little longer than normal to take my night time meds. I will take a preliminary reading  of my blood pressure, then drink a cup of tea. I will wait a little while, then re check my BP. Of course, I will top it off with my meds - but I would like to see if it works. Granted, it may take a few tries over the next few nights, but I think it is well worth it!

I did a little research of my own on Olive Leaf Tea and found some wonderful information:

According to http://crazyfortea.com/ -

•Olive leaf lowers cholesterol

•Olive leaf can lower blood pressure

•Olive leaf is anti fungal

•Olive leaf is anti bacterial

•Olive leaf is used to treat herpes virus

•Olive leaf can help prevent shingles

•Olive leaf enhances the immune system

•Olive leaf protects from common cold

Considering that the olive leaf is both anti viral and anti fungal with immune system enhancing capabilities, it is really a power house herbal tea.

Once you have your organic olive leaf, making the tea is actually very easy. Here is the standard olive tea recipe.

◦1 Teaspoon Organic Olive Leaf
◦8 Ounces boiled water

Steep the olive leaf using a tea infuser or empty fillable tea bags. Steep for 5-8 minutes depending on the flavor you desire.
The olive tea should be a nice amber color when it is ready.

There has been much research into the properties of the olive leaf, and here are a few direct pieces of information to further help you understand the health properties of drinking olive leaf tea:

Olive Leaf Studies

"Studies by The Australian Centre for Complementary Medicine Education and Research (ACCMER) in 2005 found that olive leaves have five times the antioxidant capacity of vitamin C and almost double that of green tea or grapeseed extract. According to Dr Stevenson, her team also discovered that extract of olive leaf was more powerful at getting rid of damaging free radicals than such acclaimed antioxidants as grapeseed extract and vitamin E — and that furthermore it could help to fight some inflammatory conditions."
~From the UK Times 2007

"By the late 1960's, research by scientists at Upjohn, a major American pharmaceutical company, showed that elenolic acid also inhibited the growth of viruses. In fact, it stopped every virus that it was tested against. Among others, the substance was found to counteract a variety of viruses associated with the common cold of humans."

That's reason enough for me!

Hmmmm...I'm intrigued by your olive leaf tea (specifically because I, too, suffer from slightly elevated BP.) Let me know how your experiment goes. And . . . How does it taste?
