A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you've been taking. ~Earl Wilson
Oh Mr. Wilson, you sure know your stuff!
And that is where we are my friends, in need of some time to do as I please. Sleep in, eat tropical fruit, splish/splash and dissolve into the scenery.
Alas, it is not going to happen. There is no rest for the weary. So I am going to have to take matters into my own hands. The solution - a Stay~cation. If I think about it, I 've got everything I need - water (by way of 2 pools,) a jacuzzi, some great summer reading, netflix, silky pajamas, fresh fruit and smoothie stuff...
It totally could happen. I think I need to MAKE it happen this weekend. Unfortunately, Saturdays are out for sleeping in, but not Sunday!
I have expensive mud masks, and other sumptous treats for my skin.. so creating my own personal spa day could be nice also.
Anyway.. before I begin the keyboard babble... I will share with you some ideas I found for a successful staycation on the net.
According to Mary Elizabeth Oliver from Better Homes and Garden - here are a few excellent ideas:
1. Turn your home into a spa. You don't need to go to a pricey spa to rejuvenate your body and spirit. Create your own spa at home instead -- you'll feel refreshed and save money.
2. Throw a simple cocktail party. Invite friends over for a low-key get-together of fun finger foods and stylish cocktails on your patio or deck.
3. Go on a family cycling adventure. You don't have to be an avid (or experienced) biker to have a blast. For a safer adventure traverse local bike trails instead of hitting the streets.
4. Have a picnic. Pack a basket and head to your local park for a fun, easy outdoor meal.
5. Go fly a kite. Pack a kite or two with your picnic supplies and head to your favorite park for some family fun.
6. Transform your home into an island retreat. Bring relaxing tropical style home with budget-friendly, summery decorating ideas.
7. Plant a family garden. Share your passion for gardening with your kids while teaching them responsibility and patience.
8. Host a girls' night in. Kick back with your favorite girlfriends for an evening of fancy fun and surprisingly simple treats.
9. Have a field day. Rediscover freeze tag, red rover, and other games you used to play as a kid. Our variations make them more fun -- and secretly healthy -- for the whole family.
10. Host a Mexican patio party. Serve delicious Mexican specialities.
11. Throw a Hawaiian luau.
Now all of those are GREAT if you have a family, or friends who aren't as crazy busy as you are. But let's say it's just - YOU - I think the idea for the spa retreat is good. Which got me to thinking... what can you do "alone" to feel as if you are on vacation....
Here is what I found:
I found an amazing website called - http://www.staycationidea.com/!
What ideas do you have to create a "staycation" that truly makes you feel wonderful?

Your staycation sounds lovely! It's Mother's Day weekend, also known as the busiest of restaurant holiday's, so I will be working my patootie off all weekend!
Have a smoothie for me!
Luau!! Yeah. I like that idea.
