We wander for distraction, but we travel for fulfillment. ~Hilaire Belloc
I have an idea!! I will not fuss - and let the egyptian return to Egypt without me... and I.. oh I.. will begin my own little journey - further east perhaps?
(Wait.. that does not sound right. Let me clarify - he is taking vacation and visiting his family back in Egypt. I want to take a vacation too - but he really wants to see his family alone.)
As you all know, I have hosted 14 exchange students over the years. It has been awhile since I did it - but I have 14 wonderful "kids" around the world. Here's the thing - they are all no longer kids. The youngest one is about to turn 21 - the rest are in their mid 20s.
The point? Why don't I go visit my first exchange studet - Pennapa in Bangkok, Thailand?
It's a perfect idea - the egyptian flies to Cairo - I fly to Bangkok. We choose the same travel dates and all is well!
I checked out the prices, a round trip ticket is $1200. I would fly from Bham to Milwakee to Tokyo to Bangkok and come back through Tokyo to Detroit to Bham.
Totally doable. Totally exciting.
Thanksgiving in Thailand????? :-) :-) :-)
Waiting to get word from Pennapa. Very excited. THIS could be good!
You know.. my dad used to live in Thailand! How cool to go where he spent time!!
Who says I can't turn a plan around??? ;-)

I am a HUGE fan of this idea!! Asia..... :-)
That sounds awesome. I try to do one trip a year without the Hubs to visit my friends/family. It is good for our marriage to have adventures apart from one another. Keeps things exciting and fresh.
That is a FABULOUS idea! And kudos on hosting the students -- my best friend is heavily involved with Youth for Understanding, and has SO MUCH TROUBLE finding homes for the kids!
Yenta Mary - Thanks (btw) for all of the support in your comments!
Florida Girl - Good to hear!
Telisa - ahhh.. a girl after my own heart!
